BlossomNigeria commends Wema Bank for embarking on the second cohort of the FGN-ALAT Digital Skillnovation Programme to train and equip 2,000,000 youths. The digital training in 1,000,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), is needed across the nation with highly demanded digital skills in the current digital-driven world.
The Wema Bank initiative is in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the training starts in Borno and Anambra states as Cohort 2 begins. According to a statement on Friday March 29 by the Bank, since the launch of the first Cohort in 2023, over 300,000 Nigerian youths and business owners, have taken advantage of the platform for their business and career success. The past Cohort featured 100 percent virtual learning sessions where participants from the 36 states were provided with self-paced online learning experiences.
As Cohort 2 takes off in the second quarter of 2024, the ‘FGN-ALAT Digital Skillnovation Programme’ will cover key digital skills including software engineering, product management, business analysis, cloud computing, product design, among others.
The statement added that the second phase would be carried out via FGN-ALAT Digital Hubs, which will be set up in the different states across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. This is to ensure that every Nigerian can access the programme’s full benefits regardless of their location.
Wema Bank’s Executive Director of Retail and Digital Business, Tunde Mabawonku, stressed the role of the programme in bridging the gaps in Nigeria’s macro-economic landscape towards national development.
BlossomNigeria commends Wema Bank for their unwavering commitment to supporting MSMEs, with the FGN-ALAT Digital Skillnovation Programme. It is indeed a good step in the right direction.
