In a heartwarming display of solidarity, the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation has donated a whopping N1 billion to support the victims of the devastating flood in Borno State. This generous donation comes as a beacon of hope for the hundreds of thousands displaced by the catastrophic event.

The committee’s swift response is commendable, especially considering the unprecedented scale of the disaster. Established by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, the committee has been retained by President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu, consistently providing aid to flood victims across Nigeria.

The committee’s efforts, led by co-chairmen Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, the committee comprises notable members, including Alhaji Mohamed Indimi, Dr. Mike Adenuga, and Mrs. Folorusho Alakija. Their collective efforts have made a significant impact in alleviating the suffering of flood-affected communities.

In addition to the committee’s N1 billion donation, Alhaji Dangote’s foundation has also pledged another N1 billion to support the relief efforts. This substantial contribution will go towards providing essential relief materials to those affected.

The Borno flood disaster is part of a larger crisis affecting Nigeria, with over 800,000 people across 29 states impacted by floods as of September 2024 ¹. The United Nations has announced $6 million in support, highlighting the severity of the situation.

As the people of Borno and other affected states struggle to recover, it’s essential that we recognize the importance of collective action. The Presidential Committee’s efforts serve as a shining example of what can be achieved when we come together to support those in need.

Let us continue to support the relief efforts and work towards a more resilient future for all Nigerians.
