It’s in the news that organisers of the just concluded “End Bad Governance Protests”, held from August 1 to 10, 2024, in strategic cities across the nation, are planning to stage another protest in October.
The Director of Mobilisation, Damilare Adenola, has confirmed the planned protests, saying the demands would remain the same unless there were other issues that needed similar national attention. The question is, should there be an October protest before the Government put in the needed attention the demands require, so that such a magnitude of protests can be prevented?
It will be recalled that the protesters, days before the demonstrations, had submitted a list of demands, asking the Government to implement some required National Assembly reforms for a more effective national institution. They include demands like making law-making a part-time job for the House of Representatives, pay Nigerian workers a minimum of N250,000, reverse fuel prices and the cost of electricity tariffs, and release all EndSARS and political detainees.
Looking beyond the release of political detainees, as Deji Adeyanju has also confirmed that efforts were currently being directed towards ensuring the release of protesters who had been arrested during the previous protests, BlossomNigeria ask for better response from the Government, which should produce the right set of actions, in expected areas, at this point in time of the nation’s history. Let the actions go beyond words in every region and state.
You completed a number of nice points there. I did a search on the theme and found mainly persons will agree with your blog.
