The Nigerian Government has often resorted to the use of force to intimidate people when a protest is declared. That’s wrong. There’s nothing wrong when people organise a protest. It’s one of the fundamental human rights by which people express their displeasure about issues that affect them, and get the Government’s attention to address such issues.
Protests are expressed at different levels of life. Babies protest when they are about to take their baths. Children protest when you don’t buy them gifts on their birthdays or any other special day they recognise. Teenagers protest when you have the capacity to pay for their school fees and you refuse to pay. Wives protest when their husbands do not meet up with their obligations. Even husbands protest when their wives are not managing the home well. So, what is wrong with protests? Absolutely nothing.
So, it would be wrong for the FG to resort to threats and intimidation when people are planning a protest. What a sensible government should do is to address the reasons for the protest, and seek for a dialogue with the people.
Numerous items were outlined as reasons for wanting to embark on the protest in August. None of these reasons has been addressed, yet what we read on the pages of the newspapers are threats and warnings by those in authority against protest.
Frankly speaking, I am not in support of this protest because it is FACELESS. If there must be a protest, let us know who is leading it, so that we can all follow the right trend for the right resolution, otherwise, it will be hijacked by unwanted elements and the purpose will be defeated. Secondly, a protest without a leader will ultimately result in misdirection and violence. I’m sure this is not what we want for our nation.
When the Labour Union announced its plans to protest, the Government knew who to negotiate with, so that a compromise could be reached. Any Government would be apprehensive about a FACELESS protest, regardless of whether it is a peaceful protest or not.
I can volunteer myself as a leader if need be (LOL), but the truth is, this protest MUST have someone to direct it if we want to achieve something meaningful from it.

A protest without a leader or a high positioned individual can be said to be faceless but at the same time I feel if everyone should sit and wait for a leader before protesting the damage on the economy and other areas that are being affected would only get more worse
